Career Narrative by Danuta Niton

My story begins in Poland, where I grew up and eventually earned my degree in Commercial Art and Advertising before setting my roots in Canada, over 30 years ago. Upon my immigration to Canada, I continued to expand my studies, taking numerous additional art courses at the Dundas Valley School of Art, Art Gallery of Hamilton and Mohawk College. My courses ranged from Graphic Design to Creative Watercolour to more recently, the Artist Educator program. My education led me to become a Graphic Designer, but my creative mind was always wandering, allowing me to explore many other faces of art - dabbling in painting, drawing, pyrography, creative face painting, sculpture, painting on windows, collage and mural creation.

It has been my life long, artistic, vision to encourage communities to courageously support the active creation of community art, a place where people, especially children, can publicly express themselves without fear. I believe in giving children, youth and adults an opportunity to get past their insecurities about creating art and allowing them to express themselves, through drawing, painting, sculpting, etc., handing them the tools to beautify our streets and communities.

Being an artist is not easy, so I am grateful that my perseverance has paid off and that I am able to combine being a professional artist, graphic designer and arts educator into my career.

Currently, I live, work and create in my home studio in Dundas, Ontario.
